Team Lead, Leadership through Dance™ Programs — Redwood City, CA

As we work to develop and bring our Leadership through Dance™ program to schools and community centers around the Bay Area, we are looking to hire Leadership through Dance™ Team Leads!  Team Leads have the unique opportunity to make a direct impact to our girls by leveraging their own experience as leaders to guide our girls on their journey into leadership, using dance as the framework.

As the Team Lead, you are responsible for forming a new “dance team” each season, building team camaraderie between each group of students, and guiding them to produce a dance showcase with their own self-expression and choreography, even if the girls have limited dance skills.  Throughout this process, the Team Lead will highlight the life lessons that come from working together as a “dance team” and facilitate conversations that not only help girls become better dance performers, but also become better teammates and leaders.

From the dance perspective, with the support of an additional Dance Instructor who will bring a different style of dance, you will have the opportunity to co-produce a diverse dance showcase to be performed on stage for parents and friends at the end of each season.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate our Leadership through Dance™ curriculum, while co-producing a dance showcase with our supporting Dance Instructors and students. (Training & most supporting class materials to be provided.)

  • Partner with supporting Dance Instructor to engage kids through dance instruction (warm-ups, across-the-floor techniques with different styles of dance (eg. hip hop, jazz, global dance, etc.)

  • Support in-classroom operations, such as managing safety through check-in / check-out processes, addressing issues that arise during class and ensuring parents are communicated with as needed

  • Communicate regularly with parents through weekly summaries to encourage continued exploration of topics introduced at home.

  • Lead end-of-session performance event planning, coordination & backstage management for your site.  Partner with other Team Leads from other sites for combined performances.

Skills Required:

  • Experience leading teams to work collaboratively together to achieve an outcome

  • Experience with project management and/or program management, ideally in dance production but can be from different industry

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively lead class and communicate with parents.

  • Creative problem solving skills to handle challenges ranging from choreography ideas to managing team dynamics to facing time management challenges.

  • Ability to teach at least one style of dance to kids (eg. jazz, hip hop, contemporary/modern)
